Democrats less keen on concept
There's a substantial appetite among American voters for an option other than the two major parties in this year's elections - but there's little taste for any of the third-party or independent candidates currently competing, according to the latest poll by The Washington Times/JZ Analytics.
While voters said they'd like more options, the vast majority conceded they usually only look to the Republican and Democratic parties for their choices, and said there are structural barriers that prevent third-party candidates from getting in the race or winning the kind of attention it takes to make a splash.
The desire for other choices was strong among both independents and Republicans, while Democrats - who control the White House and the Senate - were less eager to see alternatives.
"Regardless of whether folks are open to a third party today, there's almost an expectation that, 'Hey, this whole thing could be open to a third party,'" said John Zogby, the pollster who conducted the survey. "There's one kind of waiting to be formed. There's just that sense, from conservatives and moderates in particular."

Poll shows Obama's chief edge is enthusiasm factor
Race is a dead heat, Times poll finds
By Stephen Dinan, The Washington Times
Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and President Obama are statistically tied with 43.6 percent and 43.2 percent support, respectively, among likely voters surveyed in the first head-to-head matchup conducted for The Washington Times/JZ Analytics poll, which nonetheless found more enthusiasm for the president's campaign than for the GOP's challenger.
The survey, taken Friday and Saturday of 800 likely voters, found both men winning their own partisans, and gave Mr. Romney a slight edge among independents.
But the sizable chunk of undecided voters - 13 percent - reflects a more volatile electorate than the last time an incumbent was running for re-election and a Massachusetts politician was seeking to unseat him, said John Zogby, the pollster who conducted the survey.
"It's tied. That's pretty much where we are. The poll reveals what everybody feels," Mr. Zogby said. "Back in 2004, which in so many ways was a similar kind of race, we were already at 47-47, 48-48, and those numbers hardly moved. But here we are, 44-44. There's a lot of dynamics here."

Can Romney KO the GOP Field
Based on the findings of a recent TWT/JZ Analytics poll, which surveyed 500 Republican voters, more than a quarter of Republicans are not sure of who they will vote for.
What does this mean? It means that although Romney eked out a slim victory in Iowa, and convincingly won in NH, Republican voters, mainly conservatives, are not sold on Romney as a true standard bearer of Reagan conservative values...
